The Friends of the Muddy River was founded in 1980 by Isabella M. Callanan (1928-2008) along with a handful of Boston and Brookline citizens concerned with the environment and quality of the Muddy River and its surrounding parkland. We are committed to the maintenance, restoration and preservation of this valuable urban green space and fine example of Frederick Law Olmsted’s vision and skill as a landscape architect. The Muddy River at Riverway Park is the border between the City of Boston and the Town of Brookline. The Friends support each of their park programs. We are a member of the Emerald Necklace Conservancy and a Boston Park Partner. Our activities include storm drain stenciling, cleanups, water testing, plantings, tree mulching, nature walks and summer concerts. Our Riverway Concert Series has been held in the park since 1985.
